Making the blog more accessible

Yesterday I mentioned that I had met an excellent fellow, Steve, who inspired me to consider the accessibility of web pages for the visually impaired. So today I have added a button at the top of the side bar to the right of this entry. It is a cool little widget that allows you to make the current text large or larger. It is not perfect but it is a start. I will definitely add a feature like this when we build a webpage for the business and following Steves' very generous advice, we will consider text colour and size when producing advertising and promotional leaflets.

If you are a Blogger author yourself then a simple Javascript code will give you the increase text size widget to add to your blog. Bloggerstop.net is an author who has two versions of the script which you can copy. When you are in Blogger "Customise" mode go to the Layout tab, press "Add gadget" and then choose "HTML/JavaScript Add third-party functionality or other code to your blog". Paste the code into the box, save and hey presto (as it were) the widget appears in your sidebar or where ever you choose to display it. It is not perfect but it will provide improved access for people who want to read your blog with big text.
